It all depends on the oil you use. Redline Heavy (for example) doesnt have friction modifiers in it (at least not when i used it) which would cause a mechanical Nismo LSD to "clunk" on tight, slow speed turns. Like car parks etc.
Friction modifier fluid will help to reduce or stop it, but if you don't have any clunking issues with a mechanical LSD, then you don't need it.
I just preferred to use an oil that was LSD compatible to begin with to stop the clunking without having to add friction modifier solutions. If i was to add some, i'd want to get the product from the company that sold the oil so you know it wouldn't cause any problems.
As above though, if you've got the factory VLSD, its a sealed unit.
