Guess i should have asked is this obd2 or 1 ? Most obd2 cars store info or freeze frame when a code is triggerd . Basicaly it take a snap shot of the data stream during the falt and stores it . Histroy codes will show the code # . Freeze frame will show the data of what hapoend during the code like o2 voltages, rpm , maf info , fuel trims, egr % , load , ect ect . If your car has obd2 the you need to get hold of a scanner and scan it for history , pending and freeze frame info. Pending codes will usualy set with a couple of key cycles (on/off) . If your going for ob2 emmission check your car wont pass with a pending code as it wont set monitors for readiness status. Some states allow 2 monitors not ready on ob2 testing for vehicles 2001 and under . Hope this sheads some light on the subject .

And parts stores carry obd2 code readers or sacnners . Some do more then others like give live data wich is good to look at to see how its running . Price ranges from $50-150 . Check craigslist for a used one too.
