Thread: Question about this valve

Can anyone tell me what exactly this valve does and is it needed in an non emissons appication

iacv -idle air control valve

It had a thermostat type spring that get warmer or cooler by the ecu sending electricity through it. The spring opens/closes a shutter for the valve that allows air to go through or not to bypass the throttle body.

All that helps with fast idle for cold starts and what not. You can do without it but its going to be hard to get a low idle by only using the throttle body pitch screw and ecu tuning.

I removed mine a long time ago and never had an issue. It was a summer only car though.

ya, it sucks to run in winter without one, trust me. not AS bad on a manual car, but sucks real bad on an automatic.
