Thread: Question about input shafts

On monday I blew my original transmission in my 95 se-r. I just picked up another one yesterday and I noticed one difference between the two. Both are 5sp lsd. The end of the input shaft in the bellhousing looks a little different.

Note that the new one has a cone shaped end where as the original one is more of a cylindrical shape. The new one also had a vin plate on it so i googled the # and it said this was from a 97. So my main question is, is this a problem? I need to fix the car asap so I dont really have a choice right now.

The secondary question is why would they change it anyway? Thoughts?

I've never heard of any problems. Might be a pilot bearing issue though. Pretty sure you'll be fine but maybe wait for confirmation.

yea im about to go throw it in now. Pretty much the same thing I thought, I just needed someone with some intelligence to agree with me, so here we go lol. I'll update when I'm done.

Well just got all cleaned up and cracked my victory beer. Seems to work fine.

maybe they had 2 diffrent OE suppliers for the part?
