Thread: Oil pump question

Man have I had bad luck with buying used parts these past few months. Got this DET oil pump from a member, was giving it a once over and noticed something had cracked off. Anyone know what goes here/have a picture? Still good to use?

What you're missing there is another square post like you see below it in your first picture. As far as I know, it's basically useless? I don't think it actually does anything or than maybe get in the way of the timing chain.

I've probably got a picture of a unbroken one around here somewhere...

Edit: Okay the VE oil pump doesn't have anything like it, so I don't have pics. Sorry.

X2 the piece that broke off is useless. Its just the way it was cast.

yeah it's on there so if the chain loses tension up top it will help prevent it from coming off the gear down below. Don't need it, they just have them there for a 'just in case' scenario
