hmm yeah its got me too, tearing it completely apart is the only way to really know and even then hopefully it wasnt a faulty gauge or something to go through all that prouble lol

im putting all my chips on a valve issue.

i suppose it could be head gasket, but that is usually notable once you get the head off, and usually will still show some compression.

just curious, what's making you think that route?

Also Ben, you could take the head to a shop and have them test it for leaks now that it's off just to confirm your leakdown.

dude if some noob rebuilt the motor..the couldve easily forgot to install one ring on the piston...just a thought. maybe the one in there failed....

It cant be, this has already been verified that its not.

I put about a half a quart of oil in the cylinder and I am going to see if it drains over night. Regaurdless at this point I will be doing a set of rings and bearings and maybe a piston to be on the safe side. I am going to take the head to work tomorrow and do a few leak tests as well, and triple check to make sure its not that.

I lost all compression in my 4th cylinder once. It looked good peeking down the spark plug valley. Once we pulled the head, the piston seemed melted. Once I pulled it out, there was a hole on the side of the piston.

AHA! So there's probably a hole on the side of his piston as well!

Yeah. Its hard to know exactly until you tear it down.
