Thread: Alternater bracket bolt missing HELP

I missing the bolt that attaches the alternator to the tensenor bolt. It fell out some how and my car is stranded at work. Anyone have a good idea where i can find a new one all the salvage yard around me say no and the parts places don't even have a listing.

Try home depot or lowes, find out the bolt size from greg v (or order it from him, if you are not limited on time), it might be m6x1.5 or m6x1.25 if I remember, or try taking another bolt from somewhere else temporarily (power steering hose bracket, intake manifold, etc,etc, just dont worry about the length a long as a few threads are engaged)

I actually ended up just making one. The problem is that its a bolt that has another bolt going thru the head at a 90 deg. angle. I just found out the size M8 1.25 got a few bolts and extra nuts cut the head off a bolt and welded on a nut. Just got done installing it and seems like it will work fine.

I have actually twisted the long tensioner bolt off by not loosening the bolt your missing once, when I was trying to tighten the belt, glad you found a solution

If you need one still I have a million of em in my tool box . I'll send it to ya Free of charge if it fits in a envolpoe . I had the big bolt that the alt pivots on fall completely out ! Know idea how the happend ! Lol

Man that pivot bolt doesnt need to be real tight just snug it enough to keep the nut from falling off.
The rest of the adjustment bracket holds all the weight.

Just want to say thanks for all the kind offers. So far the home made one is working fine. I should have replaced the belt when i fixed it though because it broke this morning and left me stranded. I knew it was bad when i change the bolt but didn't have one with me. I though that i could make it to the weekend to get it fixed , bad mistake. Oh well it's fixed know and i was only 2.5 hr late for work today.

A few years ago my alternator belt started squealing. I checked it out and the pivot bolt for the alternator was gone. WTF? I said to myself.
