Thread: I think I have too much oil

I agree with squirlz. Mij N/A SR20 had 1,2 litres about 1.3 quarts overfill trying to cover a hammering HLVA which didn't work out btw.

Drove it like that for 7000 miles or so including the wotting and that with pretty bad sensors.

I didn;t check the oil level, while I tried though. The dipstick was unreadable all the time.

When I removed the dizzy, it came dripping out a little too much.

If you ever remove the second oil pan, take a look at the dipstick. Their isn't much oil in an engine and I also believe it is less worse to have a little overfill (but how little is little i dont know) then underfilling.

It can mess it up... It can mess up the seals and the oil pump by having the crankshaft making foam. What happens is the crankshaft "whips" the oil in the oil pan into a foam. The foamed oil is then pushed through the lubrication system. The air bubbles causes a drop in oil pressure and less oil is delivered to moving parts.

i always remember putting 4 in my b15 se with the larger maxima filter. that would make it at the top of the full mark.

My 'annual inspection garage man' which probably has a better job now filled my engine on my Nx1600 because I had no garage avail and I seem to always spill on the parking lot overhere and the cop asked me to stop do that.

But I knew he didn't know much Nissan specific, and he threw 3 litres in it without looking that up first.

I told him, I want you to look that up first before you throw in 3 litres at once.

He laughed and told me that any car, the 1000 to 2000cc ones so to say, atleast takes 3 litres and no need for checking on the dipstick before that.

Urban or not?

If you reference a DET FSM which lists Imperial Quarts:

The amount you need to add after an oil change, depends on how much you drain out.
If you change oil on a cold engine, it will take longer for the oil to drain, and
chances are you won't wait for all of it.
You can get more old oil out by jacking the car up to make the drain the
lowest point.
On my B13 I raise the driver's side front.
I fill about 3-1/2 quarts, start the engine, check for leaks, shut it off.
Let the oil settle for a bit then check the dipstick.
Add more as needed.
I've found it takes nearly 3-3/4 quarts, with standard filter.

That makes me wonder what I have left in the 5 litre can, the car was sitting for 2 weeks without the second oil pan, filter also replaced and I believe I managed to pour in 4 litres, again an unreadable dipstick which annoyed me but with the engine leak which what was my bad and making spots of 2 by 2 inches here and there, after more then 2000 miles i'm still overfilled according to the dipstick

I just changed my oil yesterday, changed the filter as well.

I used 3 quarts and on the 4th quart, I went down to the 400 mark on the last bottle. Started it up, ran it idle for 3 minutes, turned it off, checked the oil. Level was only a few millimeters below the top H mark, but still on the cross-etchings on the dipstick.

So what jp314 said is realistic. But, only 3 quarts is pretty retarded if you ask me. The FSM pics are weird. A bit over 3.5 quarts should be money.
