Transmission: How to tell it's original?
Are there supposed to be markings on the transmission anywhere? Like a VIN number or something? Trying to figure out if my transmission is the original one that came in the car. Having 200k+ miles on the car with no indication of 5th gear popout has me curious.

vin i think is on bellhouseing right where it meets the engine facing the radiator. almost looks like it's on the engine.

I'll check there on my lunch break, although the reason I ask is because when I looked a couple days ago I didn't see anything. I'll check again.

I think 98+ is when they started adding vin to the trans. Really no way to tell without the vin plate.

Damn, ok. Thanks guys. What are the odds of a transmission without 5th gear popout being the 200k mile original?

possible but not likely like the other dude just said.

i would highly doubt it, unless the previous owner drove the car around town and very rarely got into fith.

Any identifying things I can look for? To tell if it came out of a P10? B14?
