Car bogs, dies, won't restart
I've got a 91 SE-R with a 5spd. It's done this a few times, only when temps are below 25° and the gas level is below 1/4 tank. It only does it not long after I start it, less than 5 min from starting it. It's bogs down and won't rev then dies on me, and there is a strong smell of fuel. It just cranks fine but won't start. If I let the car sit for 10-15 min it starts up like it's flooded then runs fine. While it won't start I can turn the ignition and hear the fuel pump kick on, haven't check the fuel pressure when it does it because it's only done it 4 times completely at random.

It's been suggested to me that the engine temp sensor for the ECU could have a dead spot causing the ecu to see the temp drop to -41° and causing the injectors to dump in way to much fuel and flood it.

Is there anything else that would cause this like an injector sticking wide open? Fuel pump shorting randomly? Any ideas?

Maybe your FPR is broken? The temp sensor is a resistor, it can be off but it can't have a dead spot.

The strong smell of fuel doesn't necesserily mean it is a fuel problem. It also can be ignition system needing attention, for example corrosion in the coil connector or a cable or just the coil itself.

This doesn't explain why it happens on almost empty gastank, I would check the spark and plug colour when the problem arises, I would take soms tools with me to do some diagnosis when the car refuses to start.

sounds like it may be an eccs problem. I had a problem before where the pump wouldn't stop priming and was flooding the motor out. make sure the eccs relay clicks on when you turn the key on and it should click off about the time the fuel pump stops priming. It's under the dash in the center you may have to bend down to hear it. try not to push the brakes or anything as well because they are on a seperate relays and may throw you off.
