engine temp
This is my set-up:
2000+ SR20DE motor with Blox WAI and 2.5 SSAC, 2.5 catback with Remus muffler. Raised fuel pressure via Nismo AFP. Car has CVT tranny with its own oem tranny oil cooler. I run Prestone 50/50 premixed coolant.
Koyo R1977 alu-rad, with Koyo 1.3 bar radcap. Flexalite puller slimfans in shroud. Pusher slim fan Flexalite in front a/c condenser. HKS fan controller. All fans kick in at 96 C and swith off at 92 C. Ignition timing is set at 17". Car passes smog test w/o any problems.
I live at approx. 1000 m altitude and ambient temps are between 20 and 30 C all year long. Oil is RedLine 15W50 synthetic.
I notice that in slow traffic and drving on highway in overdrive, engine temp quickly goes up to 96 C. Whyn I switch off overdirve and engine revs more, temps go down immediately tot approx 92 C. Downhill even more, to 88 C.
When climbing, temps go up again and the same happens in slow traffic: temps go up to 100 C. Fans do kick in, I checked.
The alternator is not so good anymore, voltage drops to approx 12 to 13 Volts when engine is at running temp. At idle it will drop to 11.5-12 Volt. I will change the alt asap.
Heat sources are the header and the CVT. But with this set-up I should not get temps to go up this fast, should I ?
I will check/change the thermostat soon, could this be the culprit ? Or air in the cooling system ? Should I also install a Nismo-thermostat ? Ambient temps are always high here. Could the waterpump be bad ?
Any suggestions ?
