Thread: Security Fuel Cut-off

I have been thinking about doing this for awhile now and interested on how other have down this.

Is there anywhere that has good info or How To on this I.E write up?

i have a fuel pump cut off on my car. so when its activated the car wont start or it will and will only get you as far as the fuel thats still in the lines.

i doubt many people are gonna tell you where their secret security fuel cut off is on their car though. id like to think mine is nearly impossible to figure out.

Can you share info on how exactly you did it?

Also is it possible to also use a starter kill?

pretty much just find the power wire feeding your fuel pump and splice into it with a switch or another different clever type of trigger that will cut power to it..

Well that or the ground is what I was thinking of. Tapping into it from outside of the fuel tank and then running a switch to somewhere near the driver or passenger.

Now what a bout the starter to? I would like to do one switch for both if possible. But not sure I can do that.

Also should I run a in line fuse?

You'd want to interrupt the starter solenoid wire, as opposed to the nice big cable that powers the actual starter.

Having one switch that would interrupt both the fuel pump and starter solenoid would be simple. Just need a double-pole, single-throw (DPST) switch (or a double-pole, double-throw and just not use two of the terminals). A double pole switch is essentially two switches in one assembly.

Both are fused already, so you shouldn't need to add anything.

I have been thinking of multiple ways to do this so it is convenient but very difficult to find. The best option is to do it with factory wiring and using something that is not visible, no extra switches. This could mean it is a combination of two factory switches or something completely separate.

My first thought was a magnet that had to be placed in a special spot to activate a hidden switch, you could use a door trigger for this and a decently strong magnet on the key chain. I also thought of a special "key" that you would make that would have a series of connections in it to complete the circuit, ie a head phone jack you kept on the key ring that was wired to complete the circuit. If you had a 6 pin connector you would have enough combinations where no one could figure it out quick enough. If you hid that connector somewhere it would be even more difficult.

I did dabble with using RFID but it would be at least $100-150 to make that work, but then you could be keyless all together.

Personally i like the magnet idea the best but it would be pretty easy to hide a head phone jack somewhere or even in plain sight and no one would really think much of it. You could flush mount it in a panel to make it look factory.

Don't do it both to one switch, if you do two different switches then you have double the security. Especially if they are both well hidden, any thief will think they are so smart when they find one, until the car doesn't start with it that hidden switch triggered. There have been a number of write-ups on this subject on the old forum. One of the best ideas I heard was to put a switch behind the ashtray. When you get out of the car, pull the tray out a bit to deactivate the switch, push it in fully when you want to start the car. Pretty brilliant if you ask me.
