why do stock clutch disks keep breaking?
Ive gone threw 3-4 OEM clutch disks that all had 6-12 months of use. No abusive power shifts, bangin gears, drag launches, etc..just drove it nice cuz it's my daily. The spring pockets keep ripping open and the springs are falling out. I just replaced a B-15 disk that was b-new last April that the spring pockets were all torn up. The clutch wouldnt even disengage. Just wondering why? Is is something i messed up on during installation? Is it the disks? How many other people have had this happen?
BTW-the set-up in is my sig. The aztec red NX
Thanks

Where are you buying these discs from?

They worked fine for a while right? They weren't causing you problems from the beginning? Meaning... You installed them with the springs toward the pressure plate (not towards the flywheel) right?

What kind of pressure plate are you using?

Make sure the 2 alignment dowels are in place, between transmission and engine , if they are not , it can cause all sorts of disk issues !!

bought them all from Greg Vogel. There wasnt any dowel pins in there until i just put this last clutch in last weekednd. i took a pair from a spare block and tranny cuz i didnt want to try and line up the bolt holes in the shim plate. I am installing the disk with the springs facing the pressure plate, And the pressure plate is a Key value currently. Thanks for all the ideas, Im crossing my fingers on this disk that it holds now that i have the dowel pins in there.

The dowel pins were likely your issue the whole time.

I know one time I was doing an engine swap and I noticed the replacement engine was missing a dowel. I grabbed one of the dowels from the old motor and installed it but for some reason it was longer than it should have been even when fully seated. Maybe they are different lengths and I grabbed the wrong one from the old motor?
Either way, I made sure to shorten it so it wouldn't cause problems when trying to bolt down the transmission. Hopefully you've got the right length dowels going on and you'll be okay.
