power steering pump bad or spun bearing...
well today i heard a squeal coming from were the belts are on my motor. it would start to make noise from idle to 2k then i couldnt here it anymore....so i check the PS resivor and was empty, the i imeadatly put some fluid in there....the noise got better but still there....as i give it gas i goes away...but i dont have any trouble turning at all, except after i first start it up in the moring

then i thought it was coming from the block...its way behind all the pulleys and belts ,so far that i couldnt tell EXACTLY were its coming from.......but what does a spun bearing sound like?could my PS pump be bad from not having enough fluid in there?

Is it like a rattling noise? I would replace it or at least source another one soon for peace of mind, but you may have caught it before real damage...

This happened on my sentra and I could have sworn my motor was gone... until one day I left my house and all of a sudden "EEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRCHHHHHHHHH" followed by smoke, and the motor stalled and died.

I popped the hook expecting the worst, but the power steering pump ceized and burned up the belt... I had to cut the belt and limp home before the motor overheated.

Replaced her and made sure my fluid was filled. Apparently I didn't top off the reservoir post swap, not to mention i used the p/s pump that came with the bluebird... so not sure.

edit: keep in mind i'm speaking of the pump only...

Trust me if it would have been a spun bearing it would be knocking and you could feel the vibration on your clutch pedal.

You might have just run the P/S fluid really low, Pedro. Was the noise like a WHHHIIRRRRING noise?

ya it was...more like a chirping type noise that souned like it went with every rpm.....but i drove it home from work and the noise is gone....yay

before the moise started, i was on my way to work. i forgot to bring my fone and was running late so a ripped it back home to get it....after i left it started to make the noise.....plus the PS fluid is leaking from the bottom hoes of the resivor
