lazy oil change question
if my motor is consuming oil, and it is on the tip of the dipstick, couldn't I just change the filter and top it off instead of going under it and draining the little bit in the pan? just curious. Lol

why not since you have fresh oil always in the car! I have been guilty of this when I had a turbo car and the oil feed line was pissing oil.

Best to obviously stop it from losing oil and then going back to regular intervals. But with 2' of snow on the ground around here I would be just topping off till some of it melted

Not the best idea. Those 3 quarts are super saturated with contaminants that the oil vapors leave behind.

we did this for a year on my girl's old car. It burned and leaked oil. Every month just added a quart.

I did change the oil and filter, this was just one of those random thoughts that become a google search top hit, LOL. To go back to what jen36 said, if it is barely registering oil on the dipstick, am I really only 1 qt low? If that's the case, I am not consuming as much oil as I thought.

In the case of most cars (Idk about ALL cars) one quart low will be the bottom of the dipstick or the bottom of the crosshatch/ whatever you have as a marker
