Thread: I Need Some help Guys.

ok heres the situation.

had a new clutch put in its not far past the oem clutches just a rhinopack

buttt now that its in an the cars all back togather when your drivingeverythings fine but if it trys to idle at all it drops down to bout 500r's and dies after about 7 seconds.

but heres the kicker unplug the MAF and it idles fine at 1 1/2 R's

but wait, theres more. turn it off and the oil,brake(ofcours duh but shouldnt be on after its off) and battery light is on when the ignition is off...but when you drive they go off at about 10 -15 mph

so im figured we missed a ground somewhere ani have no idea with the ignition. it ran fine except for the clutch before i got it replaced...

i just need some input guys...experiance helps and you guys are the ones who have it...well im gonna go search the forum more for MAF probs...thanks.

wow. who put the clutch in? they shouldnt have to touch anything but the reverse light wire and the neutral safety wire on the tranny to pull it and do a clutch job. the maf might need to come off too but that just plugs back in so they shouldnt have messed with it. Is your tps plugged in? is it calibrated?

Your 1st issue is more likely to be a vaccum issue. It is normal that in the process of taking the tranny in/out a vaccum hose got missed and is not plugged in so check all your vaccum hoses.

Now, if I'm not mistaken your tranny has 2 plugs. 1 for your speed sensor and one for your reverse light. Check to see if all the plugs are connected right.

Pulled the tranny yesterday from my donor car.
There's an earth that bolts to the side of the engine bay from the tranny, roughly where the intake resonator retaining bracket is, just behind it towards the firewall. 10mm bolt.
Might be worth checking the starter lines as well, the 12mm nut holding the live to the solenoid, and the earth line that has a connector above the starter.
Is the battery earth strap still in good health? There's an unsheathed section if i remember right that might have been flexed on the gearbox removal and snapped some of the core...

i dont have my speed cable hooked up...i havnt since i got the car, the clip in the cable broke off b4 i got the car, but i remeber him pulling the sensor out. but i cant imagine him for geting to put it back in. but i will check all these when the snow goes away...stupid snow

ok i was looking at the vacum hoses to day and there was on un hooked the lager one going under the brakefluid resv. and it didnt really help the idle any, but i also noticed a plug that wasnt pluged in, i didnt see a spot too plug it in but i think its more than likely the reverse light hook up, i had my brother stand behind my car too see if my reverse lights worked and they didnt so ill have a look-see after school tomarow

The trans only has a few connections, what may have happened is when the trans was being removed or reinstalled the harness got tugged or a connector was caught on something...

There is a vent tube from the trans from right around the master cyl to Throttle body area... it shouldn't be connected to anything. No reverse lights points to the sender, I think it's a single wire (can't remember)

The lights sound like a ground issue check the starter connections and grounds in that area.

The MAF also has it's own ground which is a common problem on the SR20s but I would look at that second as solving the dash lights may fix both.

Fyi: Search for regrounding the Maf and you should find the info with pics here or "there"...
