Thread: Short Shifter Comparison Pics and Info

The PS with a heavy knob (get a z32, thank me later) is hands down the best setup I have ever had on a b13. Tho a modded b14 shifter looks like it would be good too. Maybe zap a spot weld on top the keep tue ball in place. But after my PS install every shifter felt like garbage including BM, it was far to notchy and required a good bit of effort to overcome the trans' detents. That to me makes the shifting slower.

I was gonna install my B&M shifter I've had sitting on a shelf for years...couldn't get the dern oem shift knob to break loose! Messed with it until I started to damage it, then stopped.

Any secrets to removing the oem shifter...or methods of grabbing it w/a tool but not damaging it?

I used big ass channel locks and a rag wrapped around the shifter to get the stock one loose.

I used a propane torch to heat the rod up which then melted what I believe to be some sort of glue they use to keep it from coming off. Came right off after that. I tried everything before that, including putting it in a vice clamp.

Also an explanation on how to remove the shifter would be nice.
How does the shifter come off the linkage? I see a couple of rivets and a nut below that and the base of the shifter is in a round thing.
