Noob to the sr20.
I picked up a 93' se-r a little over 2 months ago. Nothing major, just a sr20 under the hood. I keep reading about DE+T conversions, but then there's DET swaps. What I want to know is what is the major difference and which is best to invest on? I now have enough for a DE+T conversion, but I was told to keep saving for a DET swap. Should I take the advice or just go on with the DE+T conversion?

Another thing- Can someone delineate between the red, silver and black top engines for me?

If there's a website that explains all this, please let me know. Or if you don't mind explaining it to me, please do so. I would really appreciate it.

thanks.

Welcome . I would recomend going for a complete det swap . Boosting your stock de would be cheaper but it has its setbacks like higher milage and higher compression but It should be safe on 7-10psi depending on condition of your motor . But a det for $1-1.5k you get a lower milage motor and better internals with oil squiters . red top's are gtir/bluebird silver's are avenirs . Best bang for the buck get a w11 avenir det as it has a ball bearing turbo and spools faster and should get you around 220whp stock with a good tune and are newer motors . .Mine had a w11 with some s3 cams and bolt on's got me 241whp @ 8psi Gtir motors are more money and require more work to swap like mechining the flywheel wiring in resistors for the injectors . All black tops are rwd motors iirc. Gtir has 8.3.1 comp bluebird/avenir has 8.5.1 . good luck
Bluebird and Avenir drop right in wire right up . Only modifying is to the lower oil pan to clear the crossmember and is easy pie . The ecu bolt right up also as they are ob1 (blue plug ) .
Your options ...
Gtir 227hp @ 7psi t28
Bluebird 205 @ 7psi t25
Avenir w10 205 @7psi t25
Avenir w11 227 @9psi gt25

^^^^^that is a really informative post, I'm pretty noobish to the b13 platform and the sr20 myself and I find this post very helpfull.

Just out of curiosity what would be your guesstimate as to the output a 10:1 primera with a t28 running at say....14lbs would be?

I have it running pretty good now and I have a really good local tuner but I've never put it on the dyno as it was just too damn easy to get it dialed in where I was happy with it. My wideband says its good anyway??

Sorry for the thread jack OP, I've asked this several times now and have yet to recieve even a guess.
