Thread: How bad are these cams?

Looks like it has flat spots on the lobes and pretty deep gouges in other areas. I'm pretty inclined to say "garbage." Generally, if you can run your nail over a gouge and your fingernail sticks on it, it isn't any good anymore (unless it can be machined). Pretty sure you can't machine cams thought.

Yea I bought a highport cam that looked like that once from someone on the old forum. It went right in the garbage.

Will it eventually wear (something else) out or what's the reason for not using them?

The flat spots will make your clearances wrong (I think). When I bought my car the cams were like this. They were quickly swapped out for a better pair.

looks pretty damaged, got marks, seems like its worn out.

I broke some rocker arms a while back, and while the cams didn't look nearly as bad as yours do, I took a bluepoint carbide scraper and ensured the lobe was completely flat and used them. I haven't had a problem with anything in the engine in over a year and about 5,000 miles (most of these were hard miles).

I bought this a year ago not knowing it was this bad. Now I can't even find that seller. Thanks for the input guys.
