Tell him to scout for an OEM one on eBay, you can get those suckers for under $50 easily. I'm starting to have a knock sensor stash since I keep on finding them for $20 ha.

Thanks for the image, it helps to see what knock looks like on the log . Now the ECU does stop using the knock sensor after a certain RPM because it becomes hard to distinguish knock from engine noise.
My knock sensor was bad too, it only threw the code once too.
