Tierod ends?
So I am swapping out another bad rack and pinion. And I plan on changing out the tie rod ends. Any recommendations?

make sure you have the steering wheel lined up when you put it back together so you don't end up like me. Also, make sure you flush the system REALLY well.

The smallest metal bits will cause wear on the pump and rack and will cause you to have to do it all over again. I think the new rack I bought had a proceedure which envolved running like a gallon of power steering fluid through it.

I put Moog's on my B14 this past spring. I'm pleased with them.

I'm doing the Moog's soon....My car has 304K on it so I think it's time...what about the rack and pinion? How do you know it's bad? What are the symptoms? Can it be replaced easily...while the tierods are out?

Well I know mine is bad from the fact that when it's really cold, pretty much early in the a.m. When I start the car... I can move the steering wheel almost a 1/4 turn to the left and it's really really tight and then "POP!"...pop being the loud noise and then it moves. Like their is a lot of resistance.

And after that if I turn the wheel right,left,right,left.... so on.. I can feel a pop in the floor board near the firewall where the yoke is. And this has been going on for many years now and getting worse.

And it's kind of a pain in the ass with the motor in the car but seeing that I'm doing a motor swap. I'm going to have the new to me but used rack in while the motor is out with new ES bushings.

How much? Do you remember where you picked them up from? I found them at RockAuto for like $38/ea.

I have found Amazon to be cheaper at times. Take the Moog Part number from Rockauto and do a search on Amazon.
