Who's using winter tires this season?
Just wondering who is using winter tires on their car this season? The roads are horrible out in NYC right now! It's basically ice everywhere! I had issues getting traction.. I'm looking for recommendations on winter tires-I think I'm going to finally pick up a set after seeing what the roads are like out there.

I'm using studded winters, but it's pretty much a necessity out here in VT. Also the studs I'm using are 13g which are a bit oversized.

I ran blizzaks on B14 rims during my time in Michigan and they were awesome. I would recommend them to anyone.

I believe the studded tires are illegal here in NY due to our roads being asphalt. FAIL.

From my thread on another forum people are saying NOKIAN..but they are out of my budget.

We have asphalt roads as well, but during snow season (sept-april) they usually have a thick sheet of ice over them.. Feb being the worst, some places having ~5" of ice and over a foot of powder on the roads... It gets to a point here in the mountains that plowing doesn't help you stay on the road, just shows you where the road is...

Also, I run my studs when I go to NY and have never been bothered about it... Though, out of state plates probably get a bit more leniency.

Depends, where are you headed? But yeah, anywhere on the top half of the US you'll need at very least all season tires.. Snows once you hit NY, and studs for the upper north.

Where I live, trying to run summer tires in the winter is guaranteed off-roadage lol.. We see up to 5" of ice under a foot of snow ON THE ROADS. Year before last we had enough snow in one night to completely bury my Durango.

Here is the view out of my front door...lol

note that the houses here are raised up pretty high.. you can see that on the garage of the house across the street that sits at ground level.

Also, fullah, look around craigslist. Nokians are complete win, as well as blizzak (spelling?)

You can find sets with 70%+ tread for half the price most times
