yep could be the alternator, my buddy's started sounding like that, replaced it.. however it also sorta sounds like a clutch spring rattling around the bellhousing, but its really hard to tell.. worst case scenario is there's something IN your engine..

take the belts off 1 by 1 if the noise goes away you found your problem, if not your gonna have to dig deeper

So I pulled off the belt and the alt was LOCKED! Wouldn't even spin the slightest.
New alternator on now, noise is gone, and alittle more power is back
