Another cold start thread :X
So, today was the first COLD cold start my car has seen. We are in the single digits. It started fine for the most part, usual high idle at start (around 1500-1600rpm, normal for my car) though it did take an extra turn or two to start up. First thing I noticed, was the shifter felt like it was sticky. Normally my shifter moves easily, today it almost felt like I was pulling it through a bucket of slime (if that makes any sense). Like, it didn't move as easily as normal, and didn't have that feeling of "click" to let me know I had successfully put it in reverse, a very draggy feeling. I dont know how else to explain it. Anyways I figure it's just something with the cold, which I'm sure it was, as is my other concern. My other concern is that after about a mile or so of driving, I come to my first stop. Upon pushing the clutch pedal, the RPMs stay where they were while driving (at 2k). I sat for a few seconds, put in neutral, clutch out clutch in, back in gear...Still at 2k.. I've never seen it idle that high at all... Kinda worried me. After ~3-4 miles everything seemed to go back to normal..

Should I be taking concern? I've never experienced this with any of my other cars..so it worried me.

your shifter will feel like that because of the tranny fluid.. Whens the last time you've changed the transmission fluid?

My car does the same thing.. Clutch in and the idle stays high. Not sure if its normal or not though

I personally haven't changed it. I haven't put 500 miles on the car since I've owned it. Planned on doing it with the next oil change.

My shifter feels like that when its really cold out too, until the car's warmed up at least... and turned over a little slower than normal.

car will continue to idle high until it reaches operating temp. the trans will feel like your trying to shift in mollasses. very thick, and you will be shifting in slow motion until your box warms up as well.

might want to switch over to a 0-30 oil to help with those cold starts. its actually quite a difference with cold starts going from 0-30 to 5-30 to 10-30. the car loved 0-30. diddnt seem like a cold start when i was using 0-30 either. might also want to look into a block heater as well. otherwise thats perfectly normal in cold weather. might also want to look into a 'racing' rad cap. helps the car warm up a lot quicker as well. it used to take 2-3 miles to fully warm up in the summer. after changing the cap, it took maybe 2 blocks and stayed there.
