Thread: No cold start

Can you get a blowdryer to your engine bay? Use it to warm up the distributer, if that doesnt work, warm up your wires, and so on. Might be able to figure out exactly which part is not wanting to work in the cold..

FYI I have no clue if this is good advice, but seems like a plausible idea in my head.

& Blowdryer works great at getting that moisture out for sure :P

OK, so here's the deal,

I did test for voltage out of the coil twords the dist while it wasn't working (I got 12 volts), and thought nothing of it.

Apparently, that voltage should be in the thousands. So, there be the problem. I tested it after it warmed up and it read correctly.

I replaced the coil this weekend with a known good one, and and that didn't help.

So should I look into the transistor next to the coil first or does anyone have a better idea?

did you replace the wire as well?

I'm testing voltage at the dist where the wire plugs in, so the wire doesn't come into play, but yes, the wire was replaced already.

ok, i have this faint feeling that something is either missing, being done wrong, or being poorly communicated. What wire exactly are you testing? The high-voltage or the signal input?

The situations that are playing our for me (being that you put in a known good coil) are either a bad cam position sensor, a broken signal wire, a bad ECU, or a broken wire somewhere else in between. Definite clarification and testing backwards of the system's wires and comparing the results to the FSM is needed.

Gotta be a loose wire or bad ground on the ECU.

this morning it wouldn't even turn over...

While holding the key in the start position, I gave teh area where the ECU sits a light kick.. and surprise, it started right up...

sigh, so much wasted time.
