i think it's something idle-control, along the lines of IACV. If the ECU thinks the valve is good, but it's sticking or gumming and not properly adjusting, you'll have idle issues. AAC valve could also be a culprit. Both can be removed and cleaned, though, so always try cheapie fix first before buying new stuff

Exactly the same problems as in the vids!

Also, when it happens, I can feel it happening, since the engine will feel sluggish, even at full throttle. When I let go of the gas, it stalls.

I'll check the IACV then, in a week or 2, when I come back from snow-holiday :P.

I just hosed down my engine bay with carb cleaner and no change in the idle. For the next day or two I'm going to try driving around with the IACV unplugged and see if it goes away. If so, I'm going to replace the damn thing with a new one. I was hoping I would never have to squeeze my hands in that spot again after the last time...

OK, I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but last night I put in a different MAF and between last night and this morning, not a single issue. The tach hasn't dipped below 800 rpm and I think that the inconsistencies I am seeing are due to the fact that I seriously upped my base idle to reduce the stalling frequency. I just topped off the tank and will report back soon how the car drives and what my mileage is after this.

Hmm, I'll try replacing the MAF as well. 3 minute job, so easy enough.

After several days of driving, including in lots of rain where the car had the biggest problems before, I have yet to have any more issues. Also, for the first time in a long time, my car has made it to 300 miles on a tank of gas, including a lot of driving with the a/c on to keep the windows from fogging. Mojo, let us know what happens for you when you replace the MAF.

Right, still haven't taken a look at the IACV. However, the problem has changed a bit.

It's happened a few times now. When the powerloss happens, the revs will drop even when I keep on the throttle. When I let go of the throttle, it dies.
I have some experience in Nitro RCs, and it sounds like a mixture problem, stalling even when applying throttle.

Now, when I try to start her up again, it takes quite a while before she does. It's almost as if she doesn't get any fuel. After a few (10-15) seconds, she starts spluttering again, and then she starts.

I'm leaning toward a fuel related problem now, any ideas?

I'm thinking ignition now. Is there any kind of sputter as it dies of it trying to save itself? If yes, look at fuel. If not, look at ign. Trouble is they both show very similar symptoms.

When I start her, she has a rough idle. Also, idle is sometimes normal (850), and sometimes low (500). When the motor is hot, the idle is smooth though, even at low rpm.

You tried a new MAF yet?
