Thread: Just got a "free" 91 ser need help

So i just got a 91 se-r with 245000 on it ,all for the price of putting a new clutch in my girlfriend's new car, she said she didnt need the 91 anymore so she just signed it over, score right!....Buuuut after a week of driving it for work the motor started making a super loud ticking or knocking noise, car wont stay running without staying on the gas and the acceleration is nonexistent. does this sound like an easy to fix problem or is my motor screwed? i cant do a rebuild because of lack of garage and the 1st snow hit this morning. and if i do need a whole new motor how do you guys suggest i go about it, any help would be greatly appreciated

Is there any smoke out the tail pipe?

I know he's new but don't lie to him man he's only been driving on it like a week.

ya white smoke when i tried to start it this afternoon, what would be the best way to go about getting a new motor, also i have a habit of turboing everything i own, i figure this car will be no different, if i am eveuntaly going to boost it is it better to get a det now? or get a de and just buy turbo stuffs later?

White is completely normal due to condensation, whereas smoke indicates oil


maybe you could post a vid the sound and that way me might be able to determine if you have rodknock or not...

You checked oil level? how is the general maintenance on the engine?

well thats a given. all cars smoke right away, my subaru smokes.........i sure hope smoke on start up isnt bad! lol. change the oil and see if you find any bearing material.

im just going to go with a new motor, this was my girlfriends highschool car, she drove it hard, auto xsed it took it to the drag strip every friday and with almost 250000 there is probably no saving it

Yeah but if you hit the gas and it goes nowhere... and makes smoke... and makes an awful noise... and now 250k and beat down by a hs girl...

It looks like a nice SE-R though well worth the swap. gl
