you 100% positive? for an NA car the 156 may be ok. i remember reading almost to much months ago looking up about these. everyone seemed to conclude the larger 956 is the better muffler (at least for turbo) so the vlave will not rattle. my buddy put a 156 on his 91 GTi and it rattled like the MoFo.

The larger spring would be perfect for a turbo car. That's what I am ordering

Yep, and I almost went larger spring, but being VE I didn't want to chance it...no regrets right now, as mentioned in the beginning, totally pleased with the $90 spent!

From the research I did, a rattle remedy was attempted and a slight redesign done. There were a number of originals on the shelf at jegs and many complaints...if it were me I'd drive down to my local advance auto and order it, get the latest version and wait 5 days....not to mention not pay any shipping! oops, too late, I did mention it....

- You guys think it would be better for a big bore VE to get the larger spring muffler?

MAGNAFLOW MUFFLER 18" BODY 2-1/2" C/C W/2.5" CORE 10426

^Ok guys, yet again I'm making another exhaust change. I'm tired of the 6" barrel knocking around in the channel of my under carriage, so I'm going with a 4".

^So should I get 2.5" part# 17156 or 17965? It's sounds like the 17965 will be better to avoid possible rattle? What you guys think? I'm ready to order.

^^^ I'd say, wait till Monday and call the tech dept at Dynomax before you order.
They may not know much about your set up but they should at least be able to tell you the difference between muffler valve/spring rates on the 17156/17157/17957.
With some companies I've even been able to ask to be connected the design engineers. As long as you ask intelligent questions those guys will spend time with you and even do research.

you wanna go with the 17956 for the 4.0cyl and above because the spring is stiffer and won't open as quickly, they also say it last's a lil longer because of the siffness. I have the 17156 on my P11 and it's fine but I would have went with the other if I knew about it at the time.
