IACV question
Sorry about the lack of pictures, but, what I need to now is, when I remove the IdleAir Control Valve (IACV) and I look down through the middle of it when it is unhooked from the engine, is that valve supposed to be blocking the passage of air or is it supposed to be open or vice versa? Any help is appreciated. I have a 94 SR20.

I don't know if this will answer your question, but here is a pic of mine after I cleaned it:

Yeah I cleaned mine to, I was actually talking about the Auxiliary Air Valve located next to the IACV/ Once I cleaned it, it ran better but still a little sputter, almost sounds like an exhaust leak.

It is supposed to be open on start up. Then when the car warms up it closes.

Is your car having problems at start up?

That's a different part called the "Air Regulator" that delivers some extra air during cold starts. It sits on the back of the engine rather than the idle air control valve that is more on the passenger side/rear of the engine -- where you can adjust base idle.

Not having any problems at start up, I think I just need to fine tune the timing because I still smell some fuel after driving it. I think what's pissing me off is that it's just a real rough idle at 750, it just doesnt sound right even though it appears to drive ok.

I cleaned the IACV thoroughly, I just put a new TPS on, I still have not replaced the upstream O2 sensor...keep the suggestions coming.

I figured that out quick too, it's easy to confuse the two....
