I think some people just make more power than other's "claims"

Or perhaps the dyno's up here read much lower than others.

Both my B13 and B14 transmissions broke rolling on throttle, and neither were at WOT. I figure those were just fatigue failures and their cycling from other times when I was beating on it shortened the fatigue lifetime causing failure.

I'm pretty sure it's because I was spinning at the top of third on the street and slammed it into 4th and it caught traction for a second and broken. If I had paused and shifted slowly I wouldn't be rebuilding this now, but I think my clutch was only a few track visits from being toast anyways.

Coheed, have you ever taken any of the gears off of the shafts themselves? I want to put my B15 5th gears on the QG18 stacks but I can't find anyone who has actually done it (other than a transmission shop, who wants a crap ton of money).

I might need a stack swap soon too, I think my poor adjust of my clutch cable has worn my synchronizers down to make shifting harder than it should be.

I pulled the donor tranny apart last night. Have a bunch of spare c clips and roll pins now .

Bunch of spare parts! :

QG18 Case off:

Fresh QG18 Gear Stacks (need to put the B15 5th gears on them still):

Messy work bench; I figured the yard drained the new tranny but I pulled the axle plug and flipped it on its side and whoops lol:

I'm gonna ask again, has anyone ever pulled the 5th gears off? Is it something that is easy to do? I have a press, and I was told transmission work is somewhat difficult but this is much easier than anything I have done (mainly because it's on a work bench).

JGY FLSD is on the way! I still need to know if anyone has any experience with pulling gears off of the stack...

Well, after a year, I finally put it the rest of the way together last night. Man I missed this car.

Good job man. Be careful with those transmissions.

I didn't end up changing the 5th gears because I was nervous, but I played around with the broken stacks and 5th was super easy to take off of the input shaft. I didn't try the main shaft though.

Use some 85w140 Valvoline Conventional Gear oil and I can bet you this trans will last a long long time. A lot longer than using a 90 weight oil. Shifts will be improved as well and you will feel the difference in the gear cusioning.

Better than shock proof? I had the Valvoline 80w90 Durablend in there when it went, any reason why you would run the conventional over the Durablend?

EDIT: Also, JGY DRAG FLSD on top of VLSD rocks for cornering! I figured it would push like crazy but it just kind of pulls through it and doesn't spin the inside tire very easily.
