Thread: How do I prevent corrosion on new grounds?

For the past year or two I've had persistent grounding issues. It got so my car wouldn't start, or it would hesitate and or stall when the clutch was pushed in because the engine revs would drop too fast. So, I put in 4 1/2 new ground wires, using 8 gauge wires. At first it worked fine, but every few months the cold idle would get wacky and then the car would stall after pushing in the clutch. A couple of days ago on a two mile drive home, my car stalled four times. The next day, I went out and cleaned each ground connection and now the car is working again perfectly. However, in a few months it will be bad again. Is there something I can use/put on the connections to prevent corrosion?

FYI, using Vadim's pic below, these are the grounds I put in:

3 to 2
Near driver's side corner of valve cover to 4
Thermostat mounting bolt to spot near 4
6 to 7
And an unknown wire grounded to body near 6 was extended to 7 after the bolt snapped

dielectric grease

petroleum jelly ie Vaseline

Use the dielectric grease or clean the paint off, connect your ground, then use some spray paint or clear over it to help seal the connection. You can get the grease in an aerosol anywhere they sell batteries, usually red in color.

The dielectric stuff works wonders... It's red when you spray it on so it does kinda get annoying but hell it works awesome and I haven't had any problems with corrosion since then giving it's only been about a year most that I've had it heh
