Thread: 93 ser purchase dilemma insight needed

So I have the opportunity to buy a rather mint one owner 93 ser from a retired guy who was rather anal and so it still looks factory new. But here is where it gets tricky. The car is 2000 miles away in a rust free zone so just driving it home has expenses. It is unfortunatly autotragic without cruise control, no sunroof and manual crank windows. He is firm on price at 3k cash and turned down many offers and said he is just as content to keep it. It is hard to find these cars in this shape but the price seems high for an auto with 125k miles. Thinking of just not buying. Thoughts? Full investment for me would be right around 4k when it is said and done and still be stuck with an auto that needs more investment and time to become a stick (then the 3 days of my time to drive home with no cruise control not fun). If it is as clean as you describe, like new i would buy it. These cars are becoming impossible to find, let alone clean.

Yeah it is a big decision to make. Is it worth paying 4k ultimately for an automatic is the question though and if I wanted to sell, who would pay around 4k for an automatic? (I would just get laughed at and lowballed $1500 here in the chicago area despite no rust imho). And after all my efforts to get it here it would be worth keeping a while anyway but that auto would probably drive me to want to sell it is my fear.

Rent a "Uhaul" car tow hitch and hook it up to a larger car/suv/truck and tow it home no prob. Forget the 1k to ship it. Problem solved.

Well you seem to have more cons then pros. If its not for you chris, pass on it. 4k to get it home and say 600 or so to convert it / a few hours of labor. And i agree ull be hard pressed to find some one to.pay 4k for a auto ser, despite its good shape.

Assuming that all this is true, old anal-retentive owner who carefully maintained the vehicle, no accidents, near or mint in all respects.....

Can you get independent verification of it's "mint condition"?

And if so....

Would you pay $4,000.00 for it if it were ten minutes away?


And B13 trannies suck anyways. Even if it were manual, I would want to upgrade to a B15 tranny immediately and sell of the B13 tranny.

Then I would have a mint Classic with a well designed strong Nissan tranny. For about....$4,900.00.

The cruise control is crude and inaccurate at best. I never used mine for fifteen years and finally had it removed, my right foot is all the cruise control necessary. Sunroofs put a ton of weight in one of the worst spots possible, then they start leaking. I had mine removed. Heavy, extra electronics to roll up or down windows seems silly in a vehicle that I can just reach across and adjust the passenger side window. You could always add them in if your arms are not as long as mine, it is a relatively easy modification.

I am at the point (ancient) where buying a mint, or incredibly well modified, Classic for 4 grand (or even 5 grand with a B15 tranny...) is not unreasonable. When buying a used vehicle, always buy the very best, cleanest, well maintained example you can afford.

I know how it goes when people say I would buy it but then no one actually has the cash to get it and then the sob stories on how it would get a good home but I can only afford 'x'. (Been there before with other cars in the past) Funny thing is this was a stick I wouldn't hesitate to get it. The idea of driving 3 days with our truck and trailer to pick it up and another 3 days home is even less appealing though and would be even more expensive with hotels and fuel expenses so that won't be happening. I am starting to wish I didn't know about this. Why does this thing have to be showroom new condition AND automatic. I'm just really dreading boring autotragic and resale

Just saw the other post and no I wouldn't pay that much if it was local now that I think about it so that pretty much sums it up I guess.
