Hmm, I guess nobody runs these on a VE. Understand it's not needed but was hoping someone would post up a review of the ATI crank on their VE...

I know the B series guys usually always chose to run an ATI or Fluidamper pulley because they have issues shattering oil pump gears. However I will say this. I believe and from what Ive read it has to do with alignment of the oil pump. If you have it even slightly off center it can cause issues with the pump shattering. I believe the honda oil pumps dont have any alignment dowel pins like our pumps do as well. So that could be the issues as im sure there is some movement that can happen and off centering can occur when installing the pump.

I havent seen any issues with ours with people breaking oil pumps. I mean cory was reving his all the way to right at 10k with his 2.3 and i believe 9500 with the 2.4 stroker. I dont know what pulley he was using though.

I think ill be fine with the stock VE pulley. I definitely dont want to use the aluminum pulley at that rpm though.

I think ur right and the proof is in the pudding, VE crank pulley is sufficient. Are you running a new VE pulley or your old one? Also, what other pulleys are you using on your build? Probably the GSpec Water Pump Pulley? Do you see any alternator issues whe running up to 9000+ RPM?

These ATI and Fluidamper pulleys are popular in the Honda world for the reasons you mentioned. Also, very popular in the RB world as the older RB series engines don't like revving above 7500 RPM because of crank and oil pump issues. Not much history on the VE's I guess.

If I ever go with different pullies, I'll be using one of the ATIs.

Agreed! If you've dumped thousands of dollars into your build then what's a few hundred more. The extra peace of mind that a dampened crank pulley brings might be worth two days wages.

The Super dampers are definitely over-priced though. I do not think the technology dictates a price that high but what do I know. ATI is a big brand name!

Maybe I'll be a $500 guinea pig......

Im not using any other pullies on my build. During some street driving ill be running an alternator and thats it.

A majority of the time for dyno use and at the track im running a 16 volt battery with no alternator. So no worries. But I would say you wouldnt have to worry about the alternator at those rpms as long as your using a good belt and properly tensioned.

I run an electric water pump and no powersteering so yeah on the dyno and track no belts attached to the pullies. This should also help decreas bearing wear as you dont have any side load on the crank caused from the belt tension.

We shall see. Im not spending 500 bucks on a pulley unless I see problems with running the stock pulley. I got a clean ve pulley from Andreas to put on my motor. Being I had an aluminum pulley on there before. Dont want to use it like I said.

I run a ATI pully on the 2.4 ve . I have never run any other pully on the 2.4 so I can't comment on a comparison . It def looks nice and should work out well when if /when I dry sump that Bad boy.

I think a lot of people are assuming the ATI damper weighs more, or has a higher polar moment of inertia than the stock damper. I don't think that's an assumption we can make. If it weights less, and does a better job than stock, I bet some of you would change your tune about how expensive it is.

I ran the gspec pulley for a while with no problems (7.5k rev-limit). However, I'm not taking any chanses with the 2.3 build. It's either stock or ATI.

i feel stock is good to go.

but thats just me, i ran a stock one on my 2.4. that aint saying much cause it didnt run for to long, but it had nothing to do with the pulley.

stratton.

Which pulley do you have? Do you have a part #? From my research, it seems that the FWD ATI Super Pulley was designed for a turbo application (SR20DE-T). It says on the ATI site that a crank hub spacer is required on the FWD DE pulley because of the shorter oil pump vs the DE pulley on a DE+T motor? Do you have the street or race version? They also have a specific SR20DET pulley as well. Basically I am curious if it was a direct fit on your VE? Thanks!

Alex has the ATI pulley on his VE too. Kyle Davis test fit it on his p10 when they were testing it.

i got my pulley from Mazworx when they assembled my engine so i don't have the exact number off hand. its not the race as that eliminates the outer pulley for the acc.

Is the ATI pulley designed for the VE, or do I need a spacer/machining or something?
