blackwater32, do you know if either of these guys had to order the separate crank hub spacer to get it to run properly on the VE?

The FWD SR20 ATI Super damper was designed based upon the SR20DET engine. For this reason, when using the FWD pulley on a regular SR20DE engine you need to use a crank hub spacer. Here is the spacer you would need on a DE:

The part number is 916298 and they are $16.75 above and beyond the cost of the pulley/crank hub package. Found here ATI - Super DamperĀ® Accessories

As far as whether or not they are needed on a VE specific application, I am still not sure. I spoke directly to ATI and also PM'd Mazworx but I still do not have a proper answer. If I had to guess I would think they might not be needed. The difference between the oil pump drive is the reason for this. If you install a GSpec VE specific aluminum crank pulley on a DE, you will need an oil pump drive spacer because of the shorter drive on the DE. I am not sure though if the offset of the VE and DET oil pump drives would be the same? So the spacer may still be needed If you are serious about getting a unit, the spacer is cheap and you would be able to tell when you had it in front of you if it was needed or not. Maybe somebody else will chime in about the spacer....Im just guesstimating.

FYI. I see them in the price range of $400-479 on different sites.

The FWD SR specific pulley (as mentioned already in this thread) is pt. # 918607 (with A/C) and # 918608 (without A/C).

Here is some additional info on the pulley, in case anybody is interested. BenFenner has already explained how it works and why it MIGHT be needed but here are some additional links ATI emailed to me, for your reading pleasure!

From my reasearch:

The total weight of the "Shell Assembly" is 5.0 lbs for the "street" damper (918607) and 4.3 lbs for the "race" damper (918608). Both street and race dampers use the same steel crank hub and it weighs appx. 2.5 lbs. With that being said, the total weight of the race damper assembly should be 6.8lbs and 7.5 lbs for the street damper assembly. They are not lighter than the OEM unit they replace but if it was, it would defeat the point of the pulley. The weights are there for a reason.

The ATI spacer is 0.200" or about 5mm. The gspec spacer looks like 5mm as far as I can tell by the picture.

Looks like the ATI pulley is bolt-on.

So to confirm, for ATI use on the DET/VE/GTIR no spacer is needed, only a DE

Per the footnote at the bottom?

Sorry for bumping this.

Can anyone confirm if the 918607 "Street" damper is made to utilize both belts, while the 918608 "Race" version uses the outer shell cover and eliminates the alternator belt?

918607?

918608?

Other than the obvious visual distinctions, is there a significant weight difference between the two, or any performance/reliability advantage of one over the other?
Cheers.

Street dampener can use two belts race has just the inner belt location. As for weight I do not know the exact difference but with out the outer location the race version should be lighter

I made some adjustments to post #51 and corrected some weights.

ATI lists the "race" damper shell @ 5.0 lbs and the "street" damper shell @ 4.3 lbs. So, there is a difference of 0.7 lbs between them. They share the same crank hub.

Go with the street version.
