Thread: Another weird transmision problem

Like I said,I hope to be able to get it into the garage at this point,I am not gonna drive it at all.I cant afford the clutch right now let alone any other problems.

i have a disk you can have, its got some mileage on it but it still looks ok, just pay shipping an its yours

Guess Ben may have been right.
When I installed this tranny,the axleseals were not replaced.They were soft and pliable and no tears,so I didnt change them...NOTE...I almost ALWAYS change them,since its easier with the trans out,but this time I took a chance like a dumbass
Apparently they were leaking pretty bad(both) and I didnt notice since I park on grass or dirt most of the time.
So I got the car up in the air,removed all the underhood stuff,plugs,intake,etc,and the wheels before I got under to drain the tranny...and
The underside is covered in SMURF juce..

I drive alot of miles,so it lost alot of fluid.You can see it running out the seals.
So I went ahead and pulled trans anyway,since I was that far along.
The clutch looks fine,all the springs are there,etc
So it cost me alot of extra work,but I am pretty sure that was the problem.I also got a used clutch coming,that I wont need now:o
I am ust surprised it didnt have any gradual problem as it got lower on gear oil...it just stopped working
Anyway,I am gonna have her back together later today.

It sounds like it gradually failed to me, it was just a quick gradual failure. At one point you had enough fluid to lubricate and not overheat the fluid. The next moment you lost a little bit more fluid and it wasn't enough to keep the synchros lubricated and the fluid cool enough so after a short period of driving the fluid would heat up and stop doing it's job combined with the low level. You said after letting it sit for a bit it would work again, but then fail again. That sounded like low fluid to me.

I hope that's all it was.

Keep us updated. You are a trooper for still ripping the transmission out. Once I saw it had real low fluid I'd have filled it up and went for a test drive. I hate big jobs like pulling the transmission.
Well I guess you did need new axle seals anyway. No point in filling it up then...

I hate pulling the tranny,too...but,l was only 2 axles and a few bolts away from having the tranny out already,so I had a decision to make.
The gamble was worth it after all.....Glad I pulled it.
I was just out there getting the trans ready to go back on,when I had a gut feeling to recheck the clutch/PP.
Last night I didn't see anything obvious,but after closer inspection,I found the popped spring like others suggested may be the issue.

I didn't really look that hard at it when I first put it in,but ALL the springs are loose as Pam Anderson.It was only amatter of time before this was gonna happen.You can see flat spots worn in another spring ,and wherethe loose spring started to do damage in the 2nd pic.



All in all.... got real lucky.
I made it home,The spring was mostly intact,so no other damage was done,and realized I had some leaky seals before the trans was totally empty .
Sucks I had t pull the trans again,but it make replacing the seals easier,thats for sure.
