I'd hate to pull a heater core and then find out that wasn't the problem.
yeah this sounds like the best option so far. try this out..connect the lawn hose to one side and check the heater core for leaks than if you see no leaks/water coming out the other connection by were you hooked up the lawn hose than your heater core is good....try it out n tells us if that helped..
