Loosing coolant?
Guys, my motor is slowly developing an issue.

About two weeks ago, I noticed my water temps are rising slightly faster than they usually do. So I checked the coolant and I had to put in a little more than a water bottle full. Last week, they were continuing to rise so I checked the water again and once again, put in more water.

But I don't understand where the water could be going. I looked all over and there are no leaks and the bleeder valve is tight. I'm afraid it might be the headgasket on its last legs, but I'm not seeing any smoke.

anyone have any input on what it might be?

Replaced your radiator cap lately?

I replaced it with a nismo rad cap about 8 months ago.

It could be leaking from the heat exchanger under the dash and you wouldn't notice it if you're not looking there for a leak.

My guess headgasket. Do a long pull shortly after water temp jumps right up ?

Stratton.

@Ben, I looked under the dash and felt the carpet and it wasn't wet. I would assume it would smell like coolant as well if it did leak from the heater core.

@Stratton, i can give that a try. when I'm at operating temp, I'll get on it and see how significant the temps rise.

I have no knowledge of replacing head gaskets which is why I'm afraid it might be the culprit. =/

it's not going out the overflow. the overflow tank is being sucked dry.

So maybe I should be a little more specific with my temps. they don't rise fast. Cruising around, the temps stay at a constant temp. it's when I'm at a light I can see the aftermarket water temp gauge slowly rise faster than it used to. I can still keep it under control with my fans, but just this slightly faster increase in temps and the dissapearing of coolant has me worried.

there might be a leak on the back side of the motor or it might be sucking in air. I don't know for sure.

I'm in the same boat and I have no idea where it's going.

Sometimes when I park I smell coolant but thats the only sign I get that something is wrong other than the coolant overflow dipping every now and again.

my guess would be a small pin hole leak starting in one of the hoses that only shows up when it is up to operating temps and pressure is higher. See if you can get a peak at the back to hoses under the intake mani. They are known for going if you have not replaced them yet.
