Slight fuel in oil
I've been searching and reading and combining this with what I already know. I'm not sure if the ecu has been re-tuned, but it has an aftermarket header w/o fresh air tube, no cat (so I was told) and the aiv, egr, bpt and vacuum lines have been removed. The motor ran rough and vibrated the car when I bought it Sunday. Tuesday I checked the oil and it smelled a bit like gas. Yesterday after it sat for a couple of hours I started it up and it had a lumpy/lopey idle. Today I pulled the valve cover and as soon as I broke the seal the gas smell was strong. Plugs look normal, not black or burned. I know some fuel that doesn't burn gets into the oil. I also know that bad rings and faulty fpr/injectors can cause this. Can the lack of stock components be the culprit e.g. aiv, egr, bpt, cat, and vacuum lines? If so I'll pull all of it off the motor I have in my garage. Today I will check compression and fuel pressure. Thanks in advance for all the helpl

Nahhh, the only way it would get in the oil is by leaking through the rings. Not having those items shouldn't effect that.

that was my thought, since the jdm motors lack the egr, etc. so either bad rings or possibly head gasket?

make sure the injectors are not leaking.

Could be a leaky injector, or it might be one of them might be stuck open. Seals, in the rail too might faulty.

Remove the fuel rail from the intake mani and turn on the ignition and check to see if any fuel is leaking.

Any other details? From what you're saying, you don't have many mods, to you could also be dumping fuel due to a bad o2 sensor causing a rich condition. Maybe the previous owner removed the bulb from the cluster...

that thought crossed my mind since the other bulbs have been replaced with red ones yet another thing to do is disassemble the dash and hook up an obd to it or run the ecu test. previous owner clains the o2 sensor has been replaced and from the looks of it he's telling the truth, how long ago is another story. thanks for the help cliff!

oh, as far as details, it is pretty much stock. k&n air filter, removed egr, etc. most upgrades are suspension related. cams appear to be stock as do injectors, rail, fpr, etc. he also said the it has a recent oil change, probably noticed the fuel mixed in and decided to sell it.
