If that was rod knocking I wouldn't be stunned but damn loud for that. Too loud for valvetrain noise, and based the last post date, guessing you know now what it was? My 2nd B13's rod knock courtesy of its last owner hasn't gotten any worse in now over a year, and engine runs strong as ever, w/S3's and I don't baby it. I do have to pull the motor and this Winter if I can get a few other things done, that's when I need to do it.

I think I finally talked myself into giving it to my son, the plan is to sign him over the title to my second B13 (at least jointly so he can stay on my insurance) on his birthday end of February. What amazes me is 8000 miles since it started making any noises, almost none on the hwy, some hard DD use and it's still the same - no worse. Already going through separation anxiety...problem is in all the years I've driven and owned cars, the only one I sold or traded in was my 2003 350Z and I still feel the pain from that. I suck at letting go of my cars. My Z though I was looking at major costs by 12k miles (clutch, brakes, FW, tires, 3rd gear was going-only warranty item) and I really needed a 2+2 so I traded it for my G Coupe (lol which I still have).

I still have this one, too, because I bought it new, that pic's taken in 2008, 13 years later. My daughter is already making noises about how much she'd like to drive it (turns 15 in Feb so I have a little while).

Btw yes I have seen starter casings crack several times though not on one of our cars, on older rides when I worked at a garage many years ago. Not common but usually something put a lot of force back against the starter when it was engaged, and the case just splintered. One was someone had the timing or firing order really messed up and when they turned the motor over, it made several loud "bangs" and died right away.

It's not that uncommon, although first I've seen on an SR20.

- My car is in the garage on jackstands right now. I haven't worked on it much, but I did work on it for about an hour Saturday. I've been driving my truck lately. I'll have it back on the road next week as I'll be on vacation and have time to work on it. V8 gas mileage is not fun. I'm pulling the tranny as that is the area I think the problem is.

I might even guess that the impact loosened flywheel bolts?

Did you rev it any, or notice new vibrations or wobbling?

^That's a good guess. I just heard that loud noise after the new starter was installed. I'll update the thread with pics once I find out. My car has been down since September :o tsk tsk tsk.....

Reese, I had the same setup on my 94 when it was a DE and the ACT disc puked a spring. Had to have it towed cause I couldnt use the clutch whatsoever. Made a similar noise to what you have in the video. The ACT HD PP kicks serious butt though, had it on my setup when I went VE and held up to everything I threw at it once I replaced the disc with an OEM B15 '00-01. That PP with the OEM disc should be able to easily handle your 2.3L monster. Here's hoping your DE survived the carnage with little to no damage.

- I hope it's just a spring. If so, I'll order a B15 disc and get her back on the road asap! I wonder if the ACT 6 puck sprung disc have the spring problem as well? Didn't they revise them at some point?

*Update*

^I finally pulled the tranny yesterday and it was fine. Which is good news.

^Clutch disk is fine, which is good news/bad news in my case lol.

^Blurry, but the flywheel is ok as well, so I guess the motor is shot! (All over some injectors I picked up that were suppose to be cleaned and flow tested and all that jazz.) Lesson learned, never again *blank stare -_-*

^Now I have to decide if I want to pull the DE out of my other SE-R to put in the daily while I finish building my 2.3L VE. I really didn't want to do two swaps, but geeez it's getting old driving the V8 everyday. I plan on going to LOWES and buying a real good air compressor tank to help speed up my progress if I go this route. Miss driving the car even with a DE.

Bummer. If you need some spare stock injectors to get sent out and cleaned, I'll give you some if you pay for shipping.

Are You going to pull the motor apart? Sounds like it could have some valve issues.. I have an extra set of stock valves if you need them
