Starter broke while trying to start car O_o
Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I tried to start my car the other day and heard clunk. What sucks is that this all came from me installing new injectors(ultrasonic cleaned). It took a while for the car to crank after the new ones where placed in. I shut the car off as the third injector was acting funny, but when I went to crank it again, I heard a noise. I didn't get a pic of the starter, but I will and post it up tomorrow. It was a clean break, so it didn't crumble everywhere. I wonder what caused this? So I after I took the old starter off, I felt around on the flywheel and the teeth felt fine.

I was hoping that no serious damage had been done. I installed my spare and the car cranked up, but it has a clicking noise. Sounds like I got to pull the tranny and maybe get a new disk, or friction plate? I actually let the car roll backwards a little bit to see if it would grip if I let out of the clutch and it did, but I shut it off to prevent more damage. What do you guys think happen?

What kind of starter was it? OEM or a reman? Did the starter head break off?

I assume OEM. It was the starter that came on the UK redtop motor when I bought it. I'll have a pic up tomorrow and yes the head broke off.

- Not the whole head, just half of it. The car will crank right now with ease. The noise is coming from the tranny.

Why was it having trouble cranking?

- I installed new (ultrasonic cleaned) injectors as I stated in the first post. Maybe it took a second for them to get fuel in them to fire it up. It wasn't a long long time, just about 5 seconds at the most. Not sure what the deal is on the starter. Just trying to see if anybody else has had this happen to them, and what were the results.

Crazy stuff,I wonder if theres a piece of the starter in the tranny rubbing on the flywheel or something??

^Sounds like I'll be pulling the tranny. I might as well order a new friction plate, and maybe a B15 disk. I'll inspect everything and see what I find. S*cks, though because I have to drive my V8 Ram everywhere now.

Yeah,I feel your pain .
I have to pull my tranny soon too.I have to get the clutch I put in it out.It was for the racecar project,I just put it in my DD to break it in so it can be abused immediately when it hits the track.
I will have to drive my Frontier everywhere, which probably gets worse mileage than your Ram,LOL

Good luck with this starter thing, keep us posted at what you find out about the noise in the trans.
