Thread: Overheated last night - doesn't want start today

I can tell you right now that 217F is NOT overheating. You should be worried when temps are above 220~225F.

212F is when the cooling fans actually come on...

Why is no one else catching this?! You have issues unrelated to "overheating". Unless of course you're guessing at the temperature.

If you're looking at the gauge in the cluster, 230F is where H is, IIRC.

230F Is in the middle.... 250F is the H mark

Thanks for clarification. That is correct because the needle on the gauge sits lower than 50% of the scale on the gauge itself.

I have a device that monitors several things. I forgot what it called. I purchased it from a list member who makes them from Australia back in 2005. The cluster gauge was reading normal.

This could be the third strike for my 200sx se-r. Over revved it twice and scrabble the head. Now this. Full count - 2 strikes and 3 balls!!!

I can assure you that the temperatures were not hot enough to do any longterm damage.

That doesn't mean that you should ignore a compression test, though.

by any chance did you get bubbles in the overflow bottle?

No bubbles in the over flow tank. No coolant bubbling out of rad either.

Could the fact that the T-stat is stuck in the closed position be causing the starting problem?

yes a thermostat stuck closed will cause your engine to overheat, when you buy another thermostat get one that is failsafe, this means if it breaks it breaks and stays open and this will deter you from having overheating issues like having a stuck closed thermostat. fo shits and giggles do a compressio check both cold and hot also make sure the throttle is wide open.
