I am hesitant to buy a used line unless it is uber cheap, otherwise I think I may just stick with a brand new hose.

i had always wanted to do this. i thought about it YEARS ago but never got around to trying anything. but having the hose go from the pump, up around the strut tower, then back down to the rack is retarded. all it needs to do is go from pump directly to rack with a nice stainless or quality hydrolic line.

These are links to kind of old threads, but this one shows pictures of one person who converted to steel braided lines. He doesn't give too much detail and you can't tell too much from the pictures, but you see it, sort of.

this link talks about some company that does it in NYC.

That's the end result I've come to think - they wouldn't do it for just no reason at all, after all, the 240sx design goes straight to the rack from the ps, so there is a reason why ours is up to the strut tower like this. I'm not going to chance it at all and I'm almost done my writeup on replacement. Should be up by late next week.

why are they using ATF and not PS fluid?

I'm wondering as to why they are using ATF as well, only thing they say there is that "thats what the FSM calls for" and that PS fluid is thinner than ATF....
