The intake side rocker on cylinder number 3 has come loose. Its currently sitting pinned underneath that bridge that is above the valvetrain components. From what I can see the right side retainer has been gouged, as well as the right edge of the intake cam lobe. I'm guessing the contact surface of the rocker arm has also been gouged.

My two shims are sitting close by from the carnage. I don't think anything else in the top of the head has been damaged. I will have to take a look.

So a positive from my inspection today is that I won't have to remove the head from the block. Things could have been worse.

I'm thinking I will need a new intake cam, rocker arm, and valve retainer. Any problems in pulling these parts from a used motor? I'm not sure if its critical to keep a rocker arm matched up with a cam.

THanks guys for all the help over the history of this thread. Today I finally got a replacement cam, rocker arm, and hydraulic lifter installed in the car. I went to fire it up and its running on all four again. I was very happy when I heard it run and the boxer engine sound was gone. I finally have my SE-R back!!!!

I'm pretty lucky that it was only a rocker arm problem, and the rocker arm coming off twice did not cause any major damage.

My hydraulic lifters on the intake side had air in them as I found out from bleeding them. I wonder now if air bubbles were introduced into the lifters when I had the engine up side down all those months ago. From now on I will make sure to bleed the lifters after any work in which they are postioned upside down. I think I'll probably go ahead and bleed the exhaust lifters as well just for piece of mind.

Maybe your piston cracked... If you think the vavle being open just open the vavle cover qnd see if the vavle drop or not.
