couple noob questions...lol....wat happens if i don't put the motor in tdc n just loosen the cam cap bolts n slide the rockers and shims in?? Also i read somewhere that the torque specs for the cam caps are 6.5-8 ft/lbs...is that right??

Yep, or 90 inch pounds. I prefer to use the inch lb torque wrench as its more accurate than using a ft-lb torque wrench that goes from 5-100 or whatever.

But you should put the engine at tdc to relieve pressure off the cams. If you have lobes pushing down valve springs more than a little bit, it can cause issues when going to retighten them and torque them down.

well i got the shims in the mail 2day n installed everythin bacc.......charged the battery bacc up and cranked the engine for a long time n no start.......took the distributor off to find out that the inside teeth where it sits in the grove broke and also wore out the grooves on the inside of the head.........fucc.....now wat the hell am i supposed to do??

the distributor broke where it slides in the groves on the cam n it grinded the end of the cam off too
