Thread: missing exhaust manifold stud,

Those bolts are always missing/breaking. I suspect it is because of oil from the catch tank thingy running right there always leaking which loosens up the connection in the head which allows hot exhaust gas to start leaking onto the area and it just screws shit up.

anyone ever stripped the head bolts? omfg my friend had to use a sawsall an grinder to cut pieces of this head up so he could grind / hammer on the bolts to get em out.. we got it off eventually after 4 stripped head bolts.. if that had been an engine / head i wasnt scrapping i would of been pissed lol..

Thats ok, when I broke that stud off I went to Nissan and they gave me the wrong stuff anyway. It ended up being like 12 dollars too. I ended up getting another one from a local machine shop.

You can get those studs from Napa Auto for like $2.00

Hi guys I came across your forum whilst doing a search for the same problem yous are having here. The car is for sale quite cheap because it needs manifold stud fixed on engine because it sheered off on a speed ramp, apparently??

The car is not starting as he has manifold, turbo off etc, is it worth buying in this condition is it an easy fix any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

If that's all that's wrong with the car, then it's an easy fix. However I'd be wondering what else is wrong with it because the car would run just fine with a missing stud to the point where you've got to be a bit anal to take things apart to fix it. And if you're going to do that, there's no reason you wouldn't fix the problem, put it back together and continue to enjoy the car.
