$1k definitely won't get you far for any of your suggestions. with all the stuff you need to fix you'll already be at the $800 mark. u can get a used tranny on here for cheap. axles, brakes, lines, rotors, and pads will run you close to $300 if you aren't looking for performance pieces. since you're doing all the work, it'll save you money. just a LOT of time.

i agree with viprdude in doing a tune-up and diagnostic check first. see how that goes. if the motor runs w/o a problem, put the money to fix everything else. then as time goes by, hopefully the motor runs until you save up enough money for a complete DE rebuild or VE motor.

There's probably some good junk yards/ you pull its where you are
.
Around here engines are about $100-300, and you can get a lot of the stuff you need from them for cheap (if you don't mind them being used)
.
I got a full nx2000 big brake setup for $52 at the you pull it here, so just keep what you have till you can find all the parts you need

Yeah we have "Pick n Pull" I'll have to go to them and check them out.... I always keep up with the basic tune up stuff... Did a full tune up in feb when I got it (cap and rotor, spark plugs, fuel filter, cleaned KNN filter and the plug wires) and I constantly clean the spark plugs and check the gaps ect so I'm pretty stumped on why it's losing compression... Stock should be around 180...

Surf the forum u will find everything u need new/used from forum members and greg V for pretty cheap... I'm sure the tranny is just the seals

Edit* If you want only buy parts that will transfer over to a VE like, pullies a decent clutch flywheel and intake header...on both ends u will be upgrading your car and preping for a VE

I have a full bolt on DE and wanted more power so now I also have a VE, if I could do it all over again I wouldnrt have modded my DE

Well the guy recently installed a stage 3 clutch before I bought it so the clutch is good but I think he did something with the transmission and didn't install it right or something because he sure as hell didn't know how to do anything else right on the car...

Personally I love a turbo and would LOVE to go a turbo route but not if the engines going to break down from it...

I take it that it runs fine, just has a bit of low compression, if thats the case then tune-up is the way to go, then save as mucha as you can so you can rebuild your DE or get VE, but im sorry to say but 1K wont get you far on modifications...

PD: and as someone said, when you start modifying your DD it stops being a DD, I tell you from experience, my car right now is my "DD", and for a week it runs hard it spends a 2 weeks sitting in my garage...

It runs alright I guess just the whole constant misfire at low rpms and when I take it to the rev limiter and let off it'll backfire like 5 times while the rpm's are going down

A JWT ECU will stop that. Guaranteed.

DO a tune-up and see how she reacts to those. New Spark plugs and wires, clean the MAF sensor, clean the throttle body, new distributor cap and rotor, etc... I noticed a large difference in the dirveability of my car by just doing these mods.

You can check out my sig and my car. I daily drive it, each and every day, beat the crap out of it and it runs all day. When you take it slow and easy like I have, for over six years (ok maybe a little too slow but I was jobless for 19 months) and as long as the car responds well and nothing catastrophic happens, she will love it.

I've done all that already and it still drives the same. I've cleaned the throttle body twice, cleaned MAF, changed spark plugs and wires, new cap n rotor, fuel filter, cleaned air filter ect ect. All this has been done with in the last 3 months or so

Hmm...seems like a good time to get a new engine. Miko just dropped 4 low-mileage engines on this site in the past few hours.

He even has a 150hp, 10.0:1 compression ratio engine for sale right now. A little bit more price but she will respond better to all mods from the get go than a USDM engine.

Or...go SR20VE.
