DE rebuild vs DE vs VE?
I currently have a sr20de in my b13 but you can tell the guy before me raced the poop outta it so the compression is 150-150-150-155 which I know isn't horrible but it's not great either.. I'm wanting either rebuild current block, get a better conditioned DE and swap it in or just going with a SR20VE. I have all the automotive knowledge and tool's to do this myself but seeing as it's the only car I'll have I want to make it no longer than a weekend job...

What would you guy's suggest?

Depends if you want to do a Ve swap and do it right expect to spend $2000-$2500 or you can spend $1500 on bolt on goodies for your de. How big is your pockets. What's your power goals. You know half the board is going to say go ve there are thousands of these threads already made.

those compression numbers look just fine to me, unless i missed something. A 9.5:1 block like the DE is should give you what you're seeing. Compression seems healthy to me. Unless you're looking to beef up internals and modify the engine in this rebuild for high compression, turbo, or something similar, I'd leave it.

number seem fine to me... compression tests have A LOT of variables to them, gauges could be miscalibarated, everyone argues about how many times you should crank them, that's why as long as the numbers are pretty even and the motor runs ok, I don't really see a problem with it not matching up perfectly to the oem specs

I'm a turbo nut. I would turbo the de I had if I were you. VTECH/VVL is way over rated. I would never heavily modify my only car. The first step in making any car fast is to have a reliable one to drive when the fast one breaks imo.

the compression actually sounds fine, i turbo'd my DE with my compression in that range.

You are crazy.

Back on topic. Mine did 165 plus or minus 4 on all four cylinders. I have what I have on my car and beat the crap out of it everyday.

I have never had my car down more than a half a day (besides when I had a front end collision and lost it for two months) in over SIX years.

The application will help us guide you along. I would get a VE, but that is me.

oh and so far as making a suggestion, i'd just stick with the DE for now, or if you have the money, get a VE for reliability purposes, since it's your only car.

Don't want to spend too much over 1k and my numbers went down recently because last time it was like 155 155 155 160... The car doesn't run that great... Sometimes I think it'd be easier to find another one and just sell this one! Needs new brake pads, rotors, calipers, brake lines, axles, trunk doesn't open/close right, driver side door doesn't shut all the way, tranny is leaking, steady misfiring at idle, that's all I can think of right now lol

Really? Not over 1000 dollars? I would start with normal tune-up items and see how she responds.
