Intermittent Starting Issue
Okay so when I start the car some times it will start right up with no issues, and then when the car is hot, cold, any temp, it will turn over and the dash lights will go out and it will continue to turn over. Then the dash lights turn back on and the car starts, but it doesnt do it for the same amount of time each time, so im lost. I switched the ignition and ecu relays to see if it was the ignition relay but it still does the same thing. Any thoughts on what it could be? It runs fine after it starts, idles fine, drive-ability is fine, just this issue when im starting the car

ignition switch would definitely do that, or if you've got an aftermarket alarm you may have a loose/intermittent wire under the column.

My ignition switch is also going bad and its the starter that will work intermittently. Also if i go around a corner too hard the keys will fall out, it think its time for something else.

the weird thing is the starter turns all the time(while the key is turned to the start position) but the ignition/ecu/dash lights will turn off then turn back on when they feel like it, but ignition switch sounds like a very good possibility. there's a bunch by my work in an import yard for $35 each with keys so ill snag one and try it out.

I would say it is the switch as well. They can fail in all types of ways, yours is just loosing the IGN or ACC contacts.

keep us updated, mine is doing the same thing. i just picked up an ignitor(coil) as a spare. i really didnt think about the switch either.

mine wouldnt start, i got out and checked my wires, tried again, no lights inside, no response. got back out, tapped the coil with the palm of my hand and after 4 tries it fired up fine. coincidence?

yesterday i adjusted my clutch cable, and the tab on the clutch pedal for the starter interlock switch was bent back a little. i put a rubber busing on it then its fired up since.

my only exception was one incident where it started super slow, but was fine upon idle.

my battery is close to its 3 yr warranty ending so im getting it checked as well. a hair low on juice and nissan ecu's wont start, well my(and many others) 240 was(is) like that.

Same issue here, i can take the key out while the car is running too... LOL
And my car clicks but doesn't turn over 2 times outta 3. There's a sweet spot in the lock cylinder, so it's iffy.

I know i'm gonna have to 'steal my own car' eventually.

Typical mid 90's car. Eventually you'll have to replace that thing.

i had a similar problem and it was one of the relays in my alarm, but my car would shut off while driving
