If you are talking about the bar that goes along the bottom of the car and has 2 motor mounts on it, no need to remove engine. Take the motor mount bolts out, support the engine to prevent sudden movement, remove the 4 bolts that hold it in. I'm sure I'm missing a step or a part. The engine will hang by itself by the 2 left over motor mounts. I also have to get a ratchet strap and strap one to the body one to the motor to get my motor mounts to line back up when I reinstall, but I have a custom front dog bone and my turbo is really close to the cross member too.
Also watch out for the bolts taking the threads with them. My car has about zero rust but my threads disentegrated when I removed them. I was able to retap a few of them and the others I had to bore them out further and put a thread insert in there. The plastic washers that surround my bolts disentegrated too. I cut some piston wrist pins to size to replace them.
