This is on a DE. (DET, if that really matters).

I've set up quite a few of these since I first started in 2007, and this happens to be the first motor I've had this issue with. I've built a few and everything works fine, fires up with no issues, etc. This particular motor, though... Eh.

Well these older pumps can easily jump timingbecause the chain guard thing is flimsy.

Aaaahhh you know what that makes sense. When I had the motor on the stand upside down, there was quite a bit of gap where the chain was on the sproket, and the chain guards.

I know the newer VE pumps and (maybe RR pumps?) have the guide that actually looks like a REAL guide.

I guess the easiest thing to do is just to set it TDC like I had initially done, and just set the cams to 10 and 12. Then pull the slack out on the exhaust side, 20 pins, all the slack on the intake side, and give it a few cranks. I had done the same exact steps yesterday and it seems fine to rotate by hand, but I want to be 100% sure it'll be lined up every time.
